‘PlayStation All-Stars’ could prove to be a super smash
Sony is working on a mash-up fighting game for the PlayStation 3.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, due later this year, rounds up your favorite protagonists from Sony PlayStation games over the years and puts them in a wacky four-player fighting game. Among the combatants – Kratos (God of War), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Col. Radec (Killzone), Sly Cooper, Parappa the Rapper and Fat Princess. Those six were shown in action at a press event in Hollywood this week; expect more characters to be announced in the coming months.
The game is being developed by SuperBot Entertainment, a new studio that has its own experienced roster of game developers (see game director Omar Kendall, who previously worked on UFC Undisputed at THQ in the PlayStation blog video below).
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a celebration of the PlayStation legacy, says SuperBot president Chan

Review: ‘Twisted Metal’ lacks powerful impact
When video game players reflect on the life of Sony’s PlayStation franchise, several notable franchises come to mind: Gran Turismo, Ratchet Clank and God of War to name a few.
But none seemed as explosive and over-the-top as Twisted Metal, the car combat franchise in which players took road rage to a ridiculous level using missiles and machine guns to mow down oncoming vehicles.
Now, deranged frontman Sweet Tooth and friends return in the PlayStation 3 release simply titled Twisted Metal. Although the franchise conjures up plenty of nostalgia for the series, some fine-tuning could have generated more explosive results.
The story is told through the perspectives of three characters — Sweet Tooth, Grimm and Doll Face — entered in the Twisted Metal tournament run by mastermind Calypso. If they win, they’re granted any prize they choose. In the case of clown-faced serial killer

‘Twisted Metal’ blasts into the 21st century
Video game designers David Jaffe and Scott Campbell decided to build a game on that primal feeling. Released for the original PlayStation in 1995, Twisted Metal put players behind the wheel of weaponized vehicles and spawned a series of million-selling sequels.
“The concept is universal,” says Dan Hsu, editor in chief of GamesBeat on VentureBeat.com. “Who doesn’t want to mount big weapons on cars and blow other people up?”
The franchise’s first full-fledged new entry in a decade, Twisted Metal ($60, out today, for PS3, ages 17-up), amps the vehicular combat action up to high-definition.
“This one represents the fulfillment of the fantasy that the development team had back in 1993 when we were stuck in traffic on the
