Google revamps search again

With Knowledge Graph, a Google search will ask if you want the galaxy, TV show or rock band

(CNN) — So, let’s say you’re doing a Google search for “Kings.” Did you mean the L.A. hockey team or the Sacramento basketball team? Maybe the TV show? Or maybe you actually wanted to know something about monarchs.

Google on Wednesday announced Knowledge Graph, a significant change to how search results are delivered that the company believes will make their search engine think more like a human.

“The web pages we [currently] return for the search ‘kings,’ they’re all good,” Jack Menzel, director of product management at Google, told CNN in an interview. “You, as a human, associate those words with their real-world meaning but, for a computer, they’re just a random string of characters.”

With Knowledge Graph, which

Food Network will launch YouTube channel

Which is why the Food Network and Cooking Channel veteran has checked out of network TV to oversee the launch of YouTube’s latest original content channel, HUNGRY. The channel, which goes live on July 2, is expected to feature a freewheeling blend of how-to and celebrity-driven food videos.

The venture is part of the Google Inc.-owned video site’s plan to launch roughly 100 channels of niche-oriented programming. Earlier this month, YouTube pledged to spend some $200 million to help market those channels across Google and its advertising network.

Seidel was drawn to the project in part for YouTube’s ability to create a more direct community with viewers than generally is possible with network television. It also offered more flexibility not just for viewers, but also for producers, who can more easily experiment with format and content.

Unveiled last month, the Uppleva is a high-definition smart TV and sound system integrated into an entertainment stand.

It includes four HDMI ports, two USB hook-ups and an FM radio. There’s also a compartment to hide any cables.

Misha Collins of Supernatural isn’t just an angel on TV

We met Collins, who plays the angel Castiel on Supernatural— which was just renewed for next season — at the CW Network here. He’s set to return June 14 to Haiti with 22 Twitter fans, who each raised at least $5,000 via the online fundraising site Crowdrise.com to come along. Collins and his fans will pull out hammers and nails and help build buildings. The first time, they built a dental clinic.

Tweets converted to a cause

“When the Haiti earthquake happened, I registered with UNICEF to set up an account, and posted to Twitter for people to donate to it. In a matter of a couple of hours, $30,000 had been donated. That, to me, was eye-opening.”

How to kid-proof your home theater

Every year, more than 22,000 children eight and younger are treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries related to the instability or tipover of televisions, furniture, and appliances, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. That’s because kids like to climb. They also like to stick food into Blu-ray player drawers and haphazardly press buttons.

Experts say that if your baby learns from day one that all those flashing lights and knobs are inaccessible, he or she won’t be as tempted to play with them later. So take these basic measures before your child starts crawling to safeguard him or her and your gear.

1. Anchor your TV to the wall

A child is killed every two weeks from tipover injuries. Usually it’s a toddler who’s climbed onto, fallen against or pulled up on furniture. So anchor your TV to
