Facebook: Ask employees for passwords, get sued

Facebook says employers that ask for workers' and job applicants' passwords to the site could be violating employment laws.

(CNN) — Facebook has weighed in on a practice by some businesses asking employees or job applicants for their passwords to the popular social-media site.

In a nutshell? Facebook says don’t do it unless you want to get sued.

“This practice undermines the privacy expectations and the security of both the user and the user’s friends,” Erin Egan, the site’s chief privacy officer, wrote Friday on the site’s Facebook and Privacy Page. “It also potentially exposes the employer who seeks this access to unanticipated legal liability.”

Egan said that Facebook has seen a “distressing increase” in reports of job candidates being asked for their passwords over the past few months. She notes the practice violates not just the

Online crews coming to Max Payne, next GTA

Rockstar Games says they will introduce an online Crews system to the action game Max Payne 3 that also carries over to their upcoming blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V.

Breakdowns of the features are available on IGN.

The crews will work similarly to online clans available in many video games with online multiplayer. One key difference is the Feud, a special way for crews to battle each other. Here’s how Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser describes it:

“In multiplayer games we have a feature called Vendettas — if someone kills you twice, you can initiate a vendetta against them, which lets everyone know that you’re out to get that person. For you, a special X marks their blip when they’re visible to you on the map. If you take that person down, you get extra XP. If they survive your vendetta though, they get that

AT&T’s HTC Vivid ready for Ice Cream Sandwich

ATT says owners of HTC Vivid phones can now update to the Ice Cream Sandwich version (4.0) of Android.

It’s the first update of the mobile operating system to be issued by a wireless carrier, ATT says. Google, which developed Android, released 4.0 late last year, but few devices run on the latest version.

Several other ATT devices will receive an upgrade in the coming months: LG Nitro, Motorola ATRIX 2, Motorola ATRIX 4G, Pantech Burst, Pantech Element, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Starting today, customers can download the update via Wi-Fi by visiting www.att.com/vividupdate. If Wi-Fi is not available, you can download it to a PC and install it on the phone.

HTC Vivid customers who have not downloaded by March 23 will receive a text message alerting them of the

Transfer your data to the new iPad

A. There are two ways — both easy — to transfer everything from your iPad 2 to the new iPad. If you’re an iCloud user, the first step is to back up your iPad 2. Go to SettingsiCloudStorage Backup and choose Back Up Now. When you go through Setup Assistant on the new iPad, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. After the new iPad restarts, all your settings, apps, and content will appear. You can also backup and restore with iTunes. Plug your iPad 2 into the computer and open iTunes. It should sync automatically — click Sync if it doesn’t. After the sync is complete, unplug the iPad 2 and plug in your new iPad. Choose the Restore from Backup option. All your settings and content will be restored.
